About Said vs Done

Tracking what politicians promise vs what people actually care about.

The Problem

Every election, we get manifestos full of promises. Most of them disappear the moment the votes are counted. Nobody tracks them, nobody follows up, and by the next election we've all forgotten what was even promised in the first place.

Meanwhile, politicians have no real way of knowing what people actually think about specific policies. They rely on polls that ask vague questions, or they just assume their party's base agrees with everything in the manifesto. Usually they don't.

Why I Built This

I got frustrated watching the same cycle repeat every election. Promises made, promises forgotten. I wanted a way to track what was actually said, and see if people even wanted it in the first place.

Most people don't fit neatly into "left" or "right". You might want better public transport but also think a specific tax is stupid. Politics treats everyone like they're on a team. I wanted something that lets you just say what you think about each policy on its own.

How It Works

I add policy pledges from manifestos and political announcements. Each one has questions attached, things like "do you support this?" or "is this what you voted for?", and you vote yes or no. You need to sign in with your email so we can verify each person only votes once, but that's it.

The results get aggregated so you can see how your views compare with everyone else. Over time, it should paint a pretty clear picture of what people actually want vs what they're being told they want.

Where This Could Go

Honestly, I don't know if this will change anything. But if enough people use it, we'll have data that's hard to ignore. Maybe journalists pick it up. Maybe politicians notice when their flagship policy has 80% disapproval. At the very least, it'll be interesting to see what people actually think when you strip away the party labels.

Who Built This

I'm Connor, a developer based in the UK who thinks politics should be easier to follow and harder to ignore. If you want to follow along or have thoughts, you can find me on X.
